3 Day Key Largo Babymoon Itinerary
Babymoons have become increasingly popular in recent years, and Key Largo is the perfect destination! Before we welcomed our first little one, my husband and I wanted to spend a few days away together. We wanted to focus on relaxing, eating good food, and spending time together. Continue reading for the perfect combination of relaxation and adventure with our 3-day babymoon itinerary in Key Largo!

When should I go on a babymoon?
This will vary based on your individual pregnancy, but sometime during your second trimester is usually ideal. Typically, you are feeling better if you experienced morning sickness during your first trimester, but you aren’t as uncomfortable as the third trimester. Additionally, you will want to talk with your health care provider if you have any restrictions on traveling based on your individual pregnancy. We went on our babymoon when I was 25 weeks, and I felt like that was a great time!

Where should I stay in Key Largo?
We actually chose our destination based on the hotel we wanted to stay at. I had Marriott points saved up and searched all over Florida looking for the perfect hotel for our babymoon. We settled on the Playa Largo Resort and Spa, Autograph Collection. This is a 4-star hotel with 4 on-site restaurants, pool, hot tub, beach area, gym, and more! The hotel was perfect, and we could’ve spent all our time on site if we wanted to.

Day 1: Travel Day
Morning
In the morning, we drove from Tampa to Key Largo. It was a smooth trip except for traffic on Highway 1 into Key Largo. Overall, it was an easy drive, and 5 hours was a reasonable distance for a road trip while pregnant. Key Largo is also a great spot if you are coming from out of state because it’s only a 1-hour drive from the Miami airport.
Afternoon
Once we arrived in Key Largo, we went to the hotel to see if we could check in early and luckily, we were able to! We spent the afternoon walking around the hotel and checking out all of the amenities after relaxing in our room for a little bit.
We were hungry so we decided to go to the happy hour at Sol by the Sea. This is an outdoor restaurant on site at Playa Largo Resort & Spa. The happy hour included food and drink specials at a reasonable price. My husband enjoyed the drink specials, and we shared the conch fritters and a burger with fries.

Evening
I was craving a shrimp salad for dinner, and Hobo’s Cafe delivered! This is a casual restaurant located only a few minutes from the hotel with indoor and outdoor seating. We sat on the back patio and enjoyed the beautiful weather and relaxing atmosphere. I ordered a huge shrimp bowl, and my husband ordered lobster mac and cheese. Regardless of what you are in the mood for, the menu is huge, so you are sure to find something that hits the spot!

Day 2: Explore Florida State Parks
Morning
Day 2 was all about exploring the Florida State Parks in Key Largo, so we started the day with a big breakfast. We chose The Hideout, and it did not disappoint! The restaurant is a few minutes off the main road with indoor and outdoor seating. I ordered a classic breakfast with eggs, bacon, potatoes, and toast with a side of fruit.

After breakfast, we spent the rest of the morning at our first Florida State Park of the day! Dangy Johnson Key Largo Hammock Botanical State Park is open from sunrise to sunset 365 days a year. The fee is $2.50 per person using the honor box, so make sure you bring cash.
The main activity at the park is hiking. We chose to follow the self-guided nature trail. You can complete the half loop which is approximately 1 mile or the full loop which is approximately 2 miles. It is a stacked loop with the option to connect to additional trails.

Afternoon
The afternoon was spent at John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park! This is a very popular Florida State Park and if you only have time to explore one of the state parks in Key Largo, choose this one! The park is open from 8 AM to sunset daily, and the cost is $8 per vehicle. If you are hungry, you can grab a bite to eat at the Blue Heron Cafe before exploring the rest of the park.
The park is well known for its coral reef viewing opportunities. Options to view the coral reef include snorkeling, scuba diving, or taking a glass bottom boat tour. I was really hoping to take a glass bottom boat tour, but the day of our visit the water conditions were not favorable, so we decided to skip this activity.

Other activities you can enjoy in the park are listed below:
- Kayaking
- Hiking
- Fishing
- Relaxing on the beach
- Visitor center and aquarium
- Gift shop
Evening
After a long day exploring Florida State Parks, we headed back to the hotel to relax and get ready for dinner. We ate at Snook’s Bayside Restaurant & Grand Tiki Bar, which is one of the most popular restaurants in Key Largo. The restaurant is open air and includes waterfront tables. It is the PERFECT spot for sunsets and is known for its delicious seafood! There is also live music every night between 5:30-9:30 PM and happy hour specials from 4-6 PM at the bar.

Day 3: Relaxing Pool Day
Morning
We started out day 3 with our favorite breakfast spot of the trip! Harriette’s Restaurant is best known for their HUGE muffins, but all of the food is good and very reasonably priced. The restaurant was only 5 minutes from the hotel. There are so many muffin flavors to choose from, that it was hard to pick just one. I ended up ordering the snickerdoodle muffin and my husband ordered the guava and cheese. Yum! Harriette’s is a Key Largo staple that cannot be missed!

Afternoon
After breakfast, we went back to the hotel and spent the rest of the day relaxing at the pool. We found lounge chairs under umbrellas and ordered lunch from the Sand Bar. In addition to food, there is a full bar including mocktails! I brought my Kindle and enjoyed relaxing and reading in the sun. It was the perfect activity for our last day.

Evening
We decided on DiGiorgio’s Cafe Largo for our last dinner. This might have been my favorite dinner of the trip! The staff was extremely friendly, and the food was delicious. Once we finished dinner, we headed back to the hotel to catch the sunset and relax by the fire pit. Every night at the hotel they have supplies to make smore’s, which was the perfect little treat!

Ready to book your Key Largo Babymoon?
Overall, Key Largo was the perfect destination for a babymoon in Florida. There is a good mixture of fun activities with multiple Florida State Parks and beautiful views to spend time relaxing by the pool. Additionally, we enjoyed every meal we ate!
If you are looking for more things to do, you can consider spending a day in Islamorada. Two popular activities in Islamorada are feeding the tarpons at Robbie’s and visiting the history of diving museum.
